While driving a company vehicle on site, an employee crashed into the Sewage Treatment Building. The driver’s cell phone had fallen to the floor and he attempted to recover the device while continuing to drive the vehicle. The driver subsequently lost control of the vehicle and drove directly into the building. The employee was not injured, but both the vehicle and the building were damaged.
In this case, the employee should have stopped and placed the vehicle in a safe condition prior to retrieving the device.
